Questions worth asking.

Clear answers for planning your store’s next step.

How should I compare dispensary POS systems?

Start with your required store workflows, locations, equipment, and connections. Ask each provider to demonstrate the same sale, return, receiving, stock correction, and outage scenarios. Compare written scope and total costs, and record whether each capability is available, shown only in a preview, planned, or unconfirmed. Blackleaf publishes a downloadable worksheet for these evaluations.

Should I replace my POS just to improve customer texting?

Not necessarily. If messaging is the immediate need, evaluate Blackleaf’s separate texting product against the data access and supported connection available from your current POS. A full POS change should also be justified by checkout, inventory, reporting, service, and migration requirements.

What should a California store bring to an early-access conversation?

Bring the licensed location and license type, current POS, service channels, station count, equipment you want to retain, required connections, reporting needs, and desired timing. Initial Blackleaf POS rollout is planned around California, but production coverage and a launch date are confirmed for each store after a readiness review.

What should a new dispensary prepare before choosing its POS?

Map check-in, checkout, pickup, receiving, and cash close. Identify staff roles, station and printer needs, product records, required integrations, and reporting responsibilities. Compare total costs and rehearse normal and interrupted workflows before opening. Blackleaf’s Starter planning package is distinct from a confirmed live POS deployment.

How does Blackleaf approach multi-location dispensary management?

The preview includes store selection and dedicated workspaces. The production direction combines location-specific stock, orders, offers, and employee authority with shared operating visibility. Live aggregation, customer sharing, cross-location permissions, historical coverage, and exports must be confirmed in the rollout scope.

Does a combined inventory view make stock available at every store?

No. Sellable stock, reservations, holds, and incoming supply need the correct location context. A proposed stock movement is not a completed transfer. Each store should confirm availability before accepting an order or promoting an item, and physical or regulated movements follow the applicable workflow.

Do you offer social-equity, women-owned, or veteran-owned discounts?

Our proposed Community Access program offers $100 off Software or $20 off Complete and Managed+ per location per month for the first 12 paid months. The same benefit applies to recognized social-equity dispensaries and businesses at least 51% owned and controlled by women or veterans. Qualifying categories do not stack. Starter, messaging, taxes, third-party charges, capacity additions, and hardware upgrades are excluded. Eligibility, availability, and the discounted rate are confirmed in writing before enrollment.

What does the $49 Starter plan include?

Starter is a proposed planning workspace for one user and one location, with up to 50 product records, manual menu planning, CSV import/export, and an opening checklist. It does not include live checkout, real-time inventory, regulatory reporting, integrations, AI agents, equipment, or managed service. Choose Software or above for a store POS deployment once readiness is confirmed.

What would AI agents do in Blackleaf Dispensary POS?

The product roadmap includes agents that prepare inventory purchase orders, assortment changes, SKU retirement plans, personalized offers, market research, pricing recommendations, and search-content drafts. The aim is to bring operators a prepared plan with its reasoning and required approval. These POS agent workflows are in development; supported actions and availability are confirmed during onboarding.

Will AI change prices, place orders, or contact customers without approval?

The intended model gives each store control over authority. Agents prepare the work against store-defined budgets, margins, audiences, and permissions. Purchases, price changes, outreach, and publishing require the appropriate approval before execution. Supported automation rules and approval controls must be confirmed for the deployment; a draft is not an executed action.

Can Blackleaf Dispensary POS create personalized dispensary deals and bundles?

Personalized deal creation is part of the AI roadmap. The planned workflow combines eligible customer history and preferences with available stock, margin rules, loyalty context, and offer performance to prepare a bundle or incentive, audience, message, and schedule for approval. Blackleaf’s existing messaging product is separate; customer data alone does not establish marketing consent.

How would automated purchasing and SKU retirement work?

Inventory agents are being designed to draft vendor purchase orders using sell-through, stock on hand, reservations, open orders, lead times, vendor minimums, and buying budgets. They can propose pausing reorders, a sell-through plan, or replacement products for ineffective SKUs. The operator reviews the proposal; historical transactions and inventory records stay intact. Purchasing drafts are distinct from customer checkout orders and regulated stock transfers.

How would market research, SEO, and AEO fit into the POS?

The roadmap connects store performance with dated public menu research, available vendor information, and customer questions to prepare assortment, pricing, and marketing recommendations. Search work includes useful menu and category content, local store information, FAQs, page titles, internal links, and relevant structured data that reflects visible content. Publication requires approval. Neither search rankings nor inclusion in AI answers is guaranteed.

Can Blackleaf Dispensary POS help run day-to-day dispensary operations?

Yes. Managed+ starts at $1,499 per licensed location per month and includes the Complete software and hardware package plus an agreed managed operating scope. Blackleaf Dispensary POS can prepare daily priorities, coordinate restocking and vendors, build deals and campaign materials, and maintain promotions within store-defined authority. Store staff handle physical stock movements and fulfillment, while the store retains purchasing, pricing, and approval authority.

Can Blackleaf Dispensary POS handle online-order questions and customer website chat?

Online-order customer service and website-chat support can be scoped with Managed+. Agree the channels, hours, volume, permitted actions, and escalation contacts in advance. Blackleaf Dispensary POS handles routine questions within approved guidance and hands refunds, complaints, order discrepancies, and other exceptions to the appropriate store contact.

What is Blackleaf Dispensary POS?

Blackleaf Dispensary POS is an AI-native dispensary point of sale product in development. It is being built from the ground up to connect checkout, inventory, cash, customer context, and Blackleaf’s loyalty and messaging foundation. Its agents prepare operating and growth plans for approval inside the work where they are needed. Blackleaf Dispensary POS is onboarding interested dispensaries one at a time, with scope and readiness confirmed for each store.

Can I sign up for Blackleaf Dispensary POS today?

There is no public self-service signup. Blackleaf Dispensary POS is taking on dispensaries one at a time through a limited rollout. Contact the team to discuss your location, current system, requirements, and timing. Interest does not automatically establish a go-live date.

How much does Blackleaf Dispensary POS cost?

Single-location pricing starts at $49 for a limited planning workspace with no live checkout. Software is $499, Complete starts at $799, and Managed+ starts at $1,499 per licensed location per month, in USD. Live POS plans include two registers, one check-in, and two managers. Multi-location pricing uses the selected package price for the first store. Each additional Software location is $199. Each additional Complete location starts at $499, which includes the $199 software rate and $300 for standard hardware. Each additional Managed+ location starts at $1,199, including software, standard hardware, and operating help. Developer access ranges from a no-cost sandbox to Production from $299 per month plus usage and Platform from $1,499 per month plus usage. Additional software capacity is $99 per register, $49 per check-in, and $39 per manager each month. With standard supplied equipment, the monthly additions are $199 per register, $99 per check-in, and $129 per manager. Messaging usage, hardware upgrades, and third-party charges are separate.

What equipment is included in the Complete package?

The planned standard Complete package supports two registers, one check-in, two managers, and one customer-facing display. It includes four Windows Surface tablets; five Zebra DS9208 scanners; two Star TSP143IIIBI receipt printers; two back-office computers; a cash counter; a Dymo LabelWriter 450; a Zebra GK420d; a multifunction scanner and printer; a product display-card printer; and two Sonos speakers. Final supported models, compatibility, installation needs, upgrades, and substitutions are confirmed for your store.

Which devices are replaced every year?

Complete and Managed+ are planned to include brand-new replacement tablets and computers every year at the agreed specifications. This includes the supplied customer-facing tablet and computing added through a monthly hardware capacity option. Printers, scanners, cash counters, and speakers are outside the annual computing refresh and follow the equipment service terms. Starter and Software do not include supplied hardware or annual replacement of customer-owned devices.

Does Blackleaf Dispensary POS integrate with Metrc?

Metrc reporting is part of the planned POS workflow. The current preview does not establish a live production Metrc integration. State-specific reporting, credentials, submissions, corrections, and reconciliation must be implemented and validated before activation. Confirm current coverage with Blackleaf Dispensary POS for your licensed location.

Which states will Blackleaf Dispensary POS support?

The initial rollout is planned around California. Additional state coverage has not been announced here. A store’s jurisdiction, license type, reporting requirements, payment setup, and launch readiness need individual confirmation.

Will Blackleaf Dispensary POS work offline?

Offline operation is on the roadmap. Offline settlement is not currently represented as production-ready. Your deployment review should specify what can continue without internet, which actions are restricted, and how payments, inventory, permissions, and reporting reconcile after reconnecting.

Do I have to switch POS systems to use Blackleaf texting?

No. Blackleaf’s dispensary messaging platform is available separately and can work alongside an existing POS, subject to the integration and data access available for that system. Adopting Blackleaf Dispensary POS is a separate store-operations decision.

How does POS fit with loyalty and customer history?

The POS direction reuses Blackleaf’s existing customer and rewards foundation. Current development includes customer and rewards context; production earning, redemption, historical migration, and related checkout behavior must be confirmed in the rollout scope. Customer data is not, by itself, marketing consent.

Can our technical team connect other software?

Documented POS interfaces, customer-authorized integrations, and data exports are core roadmap requirements. Review the actual available operations, permissions, event delivery, limits, and fees with Blackleaf before committing to an integration. The existing public Blackleaf messaging API should not be assumed to expose the developing POS functions.

Which payment methods are supported?

Payment methods and providers are confirmed during store onboarding. The development preview is not a promise of live card processing, cashless ATM, ACH, or offline payment support. Ask for the permitted tender types, provider terms, fees, and refund behavior in your deployment scope.
